Real-time ray tracing is available in the Windows 10 version of Minecraft and enables light effects to appear more realistically in the 3D game world. This allows the game to be played smoothly while still providing optimum visual fidelity and performance. This FAQ contains answers to questions concerning how it functions and ways in which you can incorporate it into your gaming experience.

To avoid losing saves, always make sure you are using a Windows 10 version of Minecraft that is at least version 1.16.200. Wait for the update to appear. To find out if your graphics drivers are up to date, use these steps: Go to How to Update Minecraft, and then use these steps to learn how to check if your drivers are up to date in Windows 10.

In order to properly experience physically-based rendering (PBR) and ray tracing in Minecraft for Windows 10, you must meet the following minimum system requirements:

Windows 10 64-bit OS:

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 Series and higher, and AMD Radeon RX 6000 Series and higher GPU is capable of doing hardware ray tracing using DirectX.

While virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR) headsets are not supported, PC is an acceptable alternative.

• System requirement:

CPU: Intel Core i5 or equivalent

>8 GB of RAM: RAM

You will need version 1.16.200 or higher to play.

Ray tracing is free in Minecraft?

Yes! Ray tracing is now available to players who own Minecraft for Windows 10. Some of these new features will not be accessible unless your system meets the minimum technical requirements.

Will the NVIDIA GeForce GTX series cards be supported in the future?

No. The recommended hardware ray tracing support is used to get the best visual fidelity and performance out of Minecraft using ray tracing. GeForce RTX 20 series and above support it. AMD Radeon RX 6000 series and above support it.

It sounds amazing! What can I do with it?

The two ways you can get ray tracing in Minecraft on Windows 10 are either if you meet the minimum requirements, or if you’re on the Windows 10 version of the game.

If you were enrolled in the RTX beta, you are now enrolled in the standard Minecraft beta and will continue to receive the latest beta version, including ray tracing features. If you no longer want to be in the Minecraft beta and want to get back onto the mainline branch of Minecraft, follow these steps:

  1. Back up your existing worlds, saves, and profiles, just in case.
  2. Open the Xbox Insider Hub application.
  3. Navigate to Insider Content and selectMinecraft.
  4. Select Manage, then Unenroll, and then Done.
  5. Wait a few minutes, then check for Minecraft updates in the Windows Store app.
  6. If you haven’t been updated, uninstall Minecraft completely, and install a fresh copy from the Windows Store.

I’m Getting an Error When Trying to Play Multiplayer with a Child Account

For Bedrock and Dungeons

Your friends at Minecraft Support have been seeing questions from players who are receiving COPPA or GDPR messaging when trying to access Realms. You might also see a vague message about privacy (we’re working on this, we swear!).

Before you can give kids online and multiplayer access, you need to take a few steps. The account will need to have Xbox Clubs, multiplayer, and online communication turned on in order to play AND an online multiplayer subscription to play online (if your platform requires a subscription). You should also make sure your account payment method is current.

If you haven’t already done so, read about setting up your Xbox Live or Microsoft Account.

How to enable Realms

  1. Log in to Xbox settings with the parent Microsoft account.
  2. Select the child account’s profile.
  3. Select Xbox One/Windows 10 Online and choose Allow for Join multiplayer games AND You can create and join clubs (first picture below).
  4. To enable chat for people not on the person’s friends list, they will need to go to their privacy settings and enable Others can communicate (second picture below).
